Commercial Radiant Tube Heating
Heat Where People Work
Radiant tube heaters are a specialist category of commercial heating, and they need engineers who actually know them. Bridge Heating & Gas Services Ltd installs, services, and repairs gas-fired overhead radiant tube heating systems across Essex, Kent and London, from single-burner heaters in workshops through to multi-burner continuous systems running the length of a warehouse.
Gas registered since 2003, with over 20 years of commercial heating experience, we work to the applicable installation and maintenance standards and the manufacturer’s instructions for whichever brand is on site.
Why Radiant Tube Heating Suits Tall, Draughty Buildings
Radiant tube heaters work differently to warm air heaters. Instead of heating the air (which then rises to the roof in a tall building and does nothing useful), the burner heats a steel tube to around 550–580°C, and the tube radiates infrared heat downward to where it is actually needed: floor level, where people work and machinery operates.
That distinction matters in three situations:
- Tall buildings where conventional warm air would stratify at roof level and waste energy
- Frequent door openings like loading bays, where warm air escapes the moment a shutter goes up
- Spot heating zones where you need warmth in working areas rather than across the whole floor plate
Radiant tube systems also warm up quickly, run quietly compared to warm air, and don’t move air around, useful in environments where dust circulation is a concern.
Sectors We Cover
We work on radiant tube systems across all the commercial sectors we serve:
- Warehouses and distribution centres
- Factories and manufacturing facilities
- Workshops and vehicle service centres
- Aircraft hangars and large vehicle bays
- Sports halls, gymnasiums, and leisure venues
- Loading bays and goods-in areas
- Churches and community halls with high ceilings
Manufacturers We Service
We work on radiant tube equipment from all the major UK manufacturers, including AmbiRad, Powrmatic, Reznor (Vision, Sonning, and Nor-Ray-Vac continuous systems), Roberts-Gordon, Schwank, and Combat. Both single-burner overhead heaters and multi-burner continuous tube systems are covered.
If you’re not sure what’s installed, send us a photo of the burner badge plate and we’ll identify it before the visit.
What We Cover
Our radiant tube heating service covers the full lifecycle of the equipment:
- Installation and replacement of single-burner heaters and continuous tube systems
- Annual servicing to BS 6896 and manufacturer schedules
- Gas safety inspections for landlord, insurer, and FM compliance
- Reactive repair and breakdown response, with priority for Service Agreement clients
- Burner overhaul, electrode replacement, and ignition repairs
- Tube replacement and corrosion repair, including the high-stress first sections nearest the burner
- Vacuum and exhaust fan replacement on continuous tube systems
- Controls, sensors, and interlock upgrades
- Commissioning and recommissioning following installation, modification, or major repair
Typical Annual Service Scope
A radiant tube service is more than a visual check. Our standard service visit covers:
- Burner inspection, clean, and combustion checks
- Heat exchanger and tube inspection for corrosion, distortion, and joint integrity (with particular attention to the first sections nearest the burner, where stress is highest)
- Reflector cleaning (a dirty reflector measurably reduces output)
- Vent terminal and combustion air inlet check (bird nests, debris, blockage)
- Vacuum / exhaust fan operation on multi-burner systems
- Suspension chains, brackets, and clearances to combustibles
- Gas inlet and burner pressure verification
- Flue gas analysis where applicable
- Controls, sensors, thermostats, and safety device function checks
- Written service record with prioritised defect list, photographs, and recommendations
Compliance and Standards
All work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers (199240) in line with the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, the applicable installation and maintenance standards for non-domestic radiant heating, and the manufacturer’s installation, operation and maintenance instructions for the equipment on site.
Installation and repair work is backed by a 12-month workmanship guarantee under our standard terms.
