Gas Pipework Design, Installation, Testing & Certification

Bridge Heating & Gas Services Ltd designs, installs, alters, tests, and certifies commercial gas pipework across Essex, Kent and London, from short alterations to existing systems through to complete distribution pipework serving multi-boiler plant rooms, catering kitchens, and process installations.

Gas Safe registered (199240) and incorporated in 2009, we bring over 20 years of commercial gas pipework experience to every project. Our work is carried out to IGEM/UP standards (including IGEM/UP/1, UP/1B, UP/2, UP/11, UP/12 as applicable), with full strength and tightness testing, purging, and certification on every installation. We work directly with main contractors, M&E consultants, facilities managers, and end clients, handling everything from the initial site survey through to handover certification and ongoing planned maintenance.

This is regulated, higher-risk work where getting the design, sizing, materials specification, and testing right first time matters, not just for compliance, but to avoid re-test costs, programme delays, and the safety concerns that come with corrective work on live or commissioned systems.

Our Areas of Expertise

  • Testing, commissioning, and certification: Strength and tightness testing to IGEM/UP standards, purging, and full handover certification for new and altered installations.
  • New installations: Design, fabrication coordination, installation, and commissioning of commercial and industrial gas pipework systems.
  • Multiple materials: Carbon steel (welded and screwed), stainless steel, copper, and polyethylene. Material selection is driven by application, pressure tier, and longevity.
  • Design and specification: Pipe sizing calculations, route planning, material specification, and isolation/safety device specification to deliver compliant, efficient distribution.

Qualifications & Standards

All gas work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers holding current ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) qualifications for the work involved. Bridge Heating & Gas Services Ltd is Gas Safe registered business 199240. We work to IGEM/UP/1, UP/1B, UP/2, UP/11, UP/12 and related standards as appropriate to the installation.

Design & Installation of New Systems

The majority of our commercial pipework work is in Essex, Kent and London. Every aspect of the job is handled or coordinated by Bridge, from initial site survey and design through to testing, purging, and certification of the completed installation.

Our comprehensive service includes:

  • Initial site survey and needs assessment
  • System design and pipe sizing calculations
  • Off-site fabrication coordination through specialist partners (faster, higher quality, less site disruption)
  • Professional on-site installation
  • Strength and tightness testing to IGEM/UP standards
  • System purging and commissioning
  • Full handover certification and project documentation

Maintenance & Alterations to Existing Systems

If your premises requires alterations or maintenance to existing pipework, we cover the full scope, from solenoid and safety shut-off valve installation, through to new appliance tap-ins, system extensions, dormant-system recommissioning, and the supporting testing and certification at every stage.

A Common Issue We Catch Early

A pattern we see often on commercial sites: undersized supply pipework or partly-blocked filters causing pressure drop at peak demand, particularly noticeable when a second appliance fires up and the first locks out, or when catering kitchens add load to the original supply. Caught early at survey or planned inspection, this is a sizing or filter issue we can quote and resolve cleanly. Left until the appliance trips at lunchtime service or peak heating demand, it becomes a callout, lost trading time, and an awkward conversation.

Service Coverage

We provide commercial gas pipework services throughout Essex, Kent and London. Our base in Upminster gives quick access to the M25, M11, and A12, supporting work across the region.

For ongoing premises, our Annual Service Agreements bundle planned pipework testing, gas safety certification, and priority callout response, a structured way to manage gas safety compliance across single sites or property portfolios.
